Authenticity is 'key' in retail sales jobs
October 22, 2009People working in sales positions, including those in retail sales jobs, have been told that authenticity is vital for business development.
According to leading sales expert Ian Brodie, being honest and genuine with a prospective client is one of the best tactics a salesperson can use.
In his blog ianbrodie.com, Mr Brodie explained that such methods strengthens the relationship between a seller and their client and so increases the chances of securing a sale.
He said: "Deepening a relationship can't be one-sided ... You cant encourage a client to be frank and honest with you if youre not going to be frank and honest with them.
"If you do try to manipulate, you'll be found out. It may not be as obvious as a split-test headline on a supposedly personal message: but people will discover your manipulation."
Mr Brodie advised those who had difficulty discussing personal matters to stick to more impersonal business topics such as value propositions.
"But if you want to build deep, long lasting relationships with clients, you must, must be authentic," he concluded.
