Technical Sales Engineer (Metal / Steel Manufacturing)

Our client is one of the world's largest metal producers with an annual turnover of over £9 billion and major operating facilities in the U.K., the Netherlands, Germany, France, Norway, and Belgium. The company has 41,200 employees in over 40 countries and sales offices and service centres worldwide.
They are now looking to recruit a Technical Sales Engineer to promote their Workshops and Projects & Technology departments in order to obtain suitable enquiries, administer and evaluate these enquiries to produce tenders and on receipt of orders administer and control the contractual and financial elements.
You will be required to interpret tender documents and technical specification for all tenders, plan and supervise all activities leading to completion of tenders ensuring costs quoted are minimum consistent with achieving planned results. You will also assess value of enquiries by measurement of material requirements and workmanship content.
Negotiation of contracts, potential contracts and settlement of claims and establishing an ongoing relationship with customers and staff at all levels, representing the company in discussions with clients both internally and externally will also play a key part in this role. Therefore you must be capable of negotiating contracts with Senior Representatives or other Works areas and external companies, have training and knowledge of contract conditions, their use and applications.
You will ensure records are in accordance with Quality Assurance Procedures. Investigating results of contracts, you will also ensure the Departmental Management is kept informed of the current financial position of contracts. Keeping the customer informed of all developments where appropriate, you will recommend remedial action i.e. through skills training or capital investment.
You should be educated to HNC-level (or equivalent) and / or have a considerable working knowledge of the Iron and Steel-making business. A good understanding of the Projects & Technology (P&T) process is also essential and relevant experience in preparing tenders and estimating practices is vital.
Finally, you should have knowledge of suppliers and subcontractors pricing of specialist items.
